EPA Aims to Double Use of Ethanol, Biodiesel
he Bush Administration proposed last Thursday a program designed to double the use of such fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel, the Environmental Protection Agency said in a statement.
The Renewable Fuels Standard Program, which is authorized by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, looks to increase the amount of renewable fuels sold or dispensed to U.S. motorists in 2007 to 3.71% of total sales from 2.78%.
By 2012, the RFS program calls for the sale of at least 7.5 billion gallons of renewable fuel, compared with the 4.6 billion gallons EPA expects U.S. motorists to consume this year.
