North America’s commercial vehicle safety enforcement officials hope to gather all the players in the truck safety debate under one tent during their annual meeting in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The centerpiece of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s yearly gathering is a half-day focus group session on the future of truck safety. The session will be part of the first three days of CVSA’s annual meeting, which will be held Sept. 9-14.

Futurist Edward D. Barlow Jr. will moderate the session, which will feature CVSA members, trade associations and public advocacy groups such as:

• AAA (formerly known as the American Automobile Association),
• Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety,
• The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials,
• Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways,
• The National Governors Association, and
• Parents Against Tired Truckers.

Other hot-button truck safety subjects to be discussed include the state of the Commercial Driver License system and the hours-of-service regulations and the use of electronic driver logbooks.
