Nearly 30% of surveyed truckload carriers raised pay for their drivers an average of 4 cents a mile in the past three months, according to the latest report from Signpost Inc.

That is the highest percentage of fleets giving pay raises in the 15 quarters that Signpost has conducted the survey, company officials said. Typically, 20% of truckload companies have raised driver pay in previous survey periods.
But as pay increases, the benefits drivers receive may be shrinking, Signpost researchers said.
Signpost, based in Hudson, Wis., tracks company driver and owner-operator compensation at more than 400 truckload fleets four times a year and sells the information to carriers.
