Domestic Air Cargo Rises Again in May
Trucks carry freight to and from airports, so increased air-cargo volumes can translate into more demand for trucking services.
The May increase was the second consecutive monthly rise, in the year-over-year data, after a series of decreases each month since January 2001.
The report covers 16 carriers, including United Parcel Service and FedEx Corp.
Including domestic and international totals shipments, ATA said airlines accounted for 1.97 million revenue ton miles in May, up 0.8% in the same month last year. This was also up from 1.87 million revenue ton miles in April.
