Diesel Price Rises After 10-Week Slide

After 10 straight weeks and 18.4 cents of decline, the national average price of diesel fuel bounced up 2.2 cents Monday to reach $1.367 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy.

The average price of regular gasoline rose 1.6 cents $1.392 per gallon from last week. This is a decline of 5.5 cents from the same period last year.

While the biggest trucks run on diesel fuel, a significant portion of the commercial trucking business is carried out in trucks that use gasoline. Both fuels impact the cost of truck service.

The average price for diesel rose in every region except New England, where the price held at $1.455 per gallon. The largest increase was in the Midwest where the price jumped 3.1 cents. The price rose 2.9 cents in the Lower Atlantic region to $1.336.

The price went up 2.1 cents in the Rocky Mountain region and by 2.2 cents on the East Coast. The price made only a modest jump in the Central Atlantic region, rising just 1.6 cents.

The DOT’s Energy Information Administration surveys 350 fueling stations at the start of each week, and usually reports the results on the same day that it polls the stations.
