Diesel Drops 2.3¢ in Fifth Straight Decline

The national average price of diesel slid 2.3 cents to $3.626 a gallon in the fifth consecutive decline, according to Energy Information Administration data released Dec. 20.
Highlights
• The cost of a gallon of diesel has shed 10.8 cents since reaching its 2021 high of $3.734 on Nov. 15.
• Trucking’s main fuel now costs $1.007 more than it did at this time in 2020.
• All 10 regions in EIA’s weekly survey reported decreases, with the most significant drop being 3.3 cents a gallon along the Gulf Coast. The smallest dip was seven-tenths of a cent in California.
• Gasoline, meanwhile, also continued its downward trend, dipping 2 cents to $3.295 a gallon.
