Diesel Decline Stops; Price Rises 1.6 Cents to $2.471
he average price of retail diesel ended two weeks of declines, rising 1.6 cents to $2.471 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.
The average price of gasoline also rose, gaining 1.4 cents to $2.254 a gallon, following a 4.4 cent-decline last week.
That was despite the latest Lundberg Survey report released Sunday showing that gasoline prices had fallen 6 cents over the past two weeks. (Click here for related coverage.)
asoline’s price is 33.5 cents higher than this time last year; at an estimated burn rate of 290 million gallons that would cost the trucking industry about $94 million over last year.
iesel prices rose in all five major regions, led by a 2.9-cent rise on the West Coast to $2.623 a gallon, the highest regional average.
California, which DOE breaks out separately from its regions, saw its price gain 1.4 cents to $2.688, the highest overall price.
The Midwest region had the lowest price, rising 1.9 cents to $2.417.
Each week, DOE surveys 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
