DHL to Raise Rates, Lower Fuel Surcharge

HL said late Thursday it was increasing rates for the DHL Ground Service by an average of 2.9% effective Jan. 16.

In addition, it said rates for DHL Domestic Air Express and International Express would increase an average of 3.4% and rates for DHL@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, the company's expedited business-to-residence shipping service, would rise an average of 3.7%.

Besides rate increases, DHL announced it would begin a fuel surcharge for DHL Ground and DHL@ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø shipments on Jan. And on Jan. 30, it would reduce its surcharge for Domestic Air Express and International Express by 0.5%.



The company also said it would implement a 25-cent increase in the surcharge for Residential Delivery and Delivery Area Service.

DHL is a unit of Germany's Deutsche Post, Europe's largest postal service.

In October, UPS Inc. said that rates for units including UPS Ground, UPS Next Day Air and U.S. international services would increase rates by 2.9%. (Click here for previous coverage.)
