Attendees of the first-ever Connecticut transportation summit toiled to come up with solutions to the state’s crumbling infrastructure woes.

The meeting gathered together more than 200 highway users, transportation officials and lawmakers. The goal was to come up with recommendations that the General Assembly could act on when it convenes in 2001.

The summit was called to address concerns that traffic woes and inadequate highway development are hurting businesses that depend on the roads, such as trucking, and threatening driver safety.

“I love to brag about Connecticut, but we’re being crippled by our transportation problem,” Gov. John G. Rowland told the Associated Press.
