Congress Increases Transport, Security Funding

| Staff Reporterimg src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>House and Senate budget resolutions for fiscal 2004 went beyond the Bush administration’s proposals to bolster transportation-related programs at the Transportation, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøland Security and Energy departments, said congressional and department spokesman.
The Senate increased the DOT budget from the $63.8 billion President Bush requested to more than $75.8 billion, as it provided more funding for mass transit and Amtrak, said a Senate Budget Committee spokeswoman.
That compares with $51.4 billion for the 2003 budget year that ends in Sept. 30.
