n an effort to relieve to the state’s diesel shortage, officials in Colorado have relaxed trucking regulations to allow drivers hauling the fuel to work longer hours, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

After consulting with Gov. Bill Owens (R), State Patrol Chief Col. Mark Trostel temporarily suspended a rule limiting the number of hours drivers can be on the road in an effort to speed the delivery of diesel to suppliers. The suspension will remain in effect through Aug. 18.

Fuel rationing has led some truck stops in the state to limit fill-ups to 50 to 75 gallons. Trucks typically require 100 to 300 gallons of fuel to fill their tanks.

While the rule suspension officially began Friday, officials did not announce the change until Wednesday, AP noted. (Click here for previous coverage.)
