The California Air Resources Board’s deadline for food transporters with model-year 2003 transport refrigeration units to install retrofits is March 31, the agency said.
By that date, owners of diesel-powered TRUs with engines from 2003 in the state must install technology to comply with the low-emission TRU standard, CARB said on its website.
CARB had previously ruled that TRU owners would have to install stricter ultra-low-emission technology by Dec. 31, 2010. To save fleets money, CARB relaxed the regulation in November to its low-emission standard and extended the deadline to March 31.
Fleets face a $1,000 penalty per unit for not complying, CARB said.
