California Seeks to Block Suit on Greenhouse-Gas Emissions Rule
alifornia’s attorney general asked a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit filed by auto makers that seeks to block the state’s plan to curb car and truck emissions, Bloomberg reported.
Attorney General Bill Lockyer said California’s emissions rules still must be approved by the federal Environmental Protection Agency and cannot be challenged until that process is complete, Bloomberg said.
Californians buys more than 10% of all new cars and trucks in the United States, Bloomberg said. It is the first state to pass emissions limits on so-called greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen oxides.
The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers sued the state in November saying the law was an attempt to force auto makers to build more fuel-efficient cars, Bloomberg said.
