Bush Nominates Van Tine as DOT Deputy Secretary

The White House said that it had nominated Kirk Van Tine, the general counsel of the Department of Transportation, to be deputy secretary of transportation.

His nomination was sent to the Senate on September 18, according to the Congressional Record.

Van Tine became DOT general counsel on Sept. 26, 2001. If confirmed by the Senate, Van Tine would replace Michael Jackson, who resigned in July.

According to Van Tine’s biography from DOT, he was a partner in law firm Baker Botts LLP. Van Tine joined Baker Botts in 1978 and became a partner in 1987.
