| Staff Reportersegislation introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives Oct. 6 would give tax credits of up to $3,500 per truck to fleets that install idle-reduction equipment to decrease emissions and fuel consumption.
The Idling Reduction Tax Credit of 2005, sponsored by Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), would give fleets a tax credit to offset the cost of outfitting a truck with alternative power sources, such as auxiliary power units or mini-generators.
The measure is intended to “improve air quality, while also helping truckers deal with exorbitant [fuel] prices,” said Granger in a statement.
