FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Truckload Carriers Association President Lana R. Batts said she will resign her post at the 900-member group effective at the end of March.

Batts made the announcement at a Feb. 5 meeting of TCA's executive committee. The group met before the start of the Winter Leadership Meeting of the American Trucking Associations; that meeting continues through Wednesday.
The veteran trucking industry advocate said she wanted to remove herself as an issue in the debate over whether TCA should integrate with ATA, as proposed under ATA's ongoing reorganization.
TCA members are scheduled to vote on ATA integration on March 23 in Orlando, Fla., at the group's annual meeting.
Batts joined the former Interstate Truckload Carriers Association Aug. 1, 1994, after a two-year stint as president of the American Financial Services Association, a trade group representing the non-bank, non-depository consumer finance industry.
The daughter of a Montana livestock hauler, Batts joined ATA in 1972 as a transportation analyst and worked her way up to senior vice president of government affairs before leaving in 1992.
