uto parts maker ArvinMeritor Inc. said late Tuesday it lost $261 million, or $3.76 a share in its fiscal fourth quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of $19 million or 27 cents in the previous fourth quarter.

The company said its fourth-quarter earnings were negatively impacted by a $310 mil-lion goodwill charge related to the company's light vehicle emissions technology business.

Losses on operations in the quarter totaled $288 million, compared with an operating income of $28 million in the prior year.

For the full year, the company lost $175 million or $2.52 a share, compared with a net income of $12 million or 17 cents a share a year ago.

Revenue for the 12 months ended Sept. 30 rose to $9.2 billion from $8.9 billion in 2005.
