ir cargo shipments jumped 5.4% in April compared with the same month last year, the Air Transport Association said late Monday.

nternational shipments soared 8% year-over-year to 1.15 million revenue ton-miles, while domestic gained 2.7% to 1.01 RTMs, the trade group said in its monthly report.

Total RTMs were 2.16 million for the month. A revenue ton-mile is the revenue generated by carrying one ton of freight one mile.

Air cargo shipments always have a trucking component, since air carriers use trucks for local and regional ground transportation.
